I saw a cool spider this morning… Orb weaver

He was pretty big for this part of the world. Aggressive too; he kept coming towards my camera, and then my feet. I’ve no idea what kind of spider it is. If you do, leave a comment!

This is why I keep my Ixus on me, even though the iPhone is good enough most of the time…

@TechnicalRah suggests it’s an orb weaver:

The orb-weaver spiders (family Araneidae) are the builders of spiral wheel-shaped webs often found in gardens, fields and forests. Their common name is taken from the round shape of this typical web. Orb-weavers have eight similar eyes, legs hairy or spiny and no stridulating organs. The family is cosmopolitan, including many well-known large or brightly colored garden spiders. There are almost 3,000 species in 170 genera worldwide, making this the third largest family of spiders known (behind Salticidae and Linyphiidae).

Looks right to me.

  1. I saw a common orb weaver outside my bedroom window and every so often I would go to my window and see it eating a fly from it’s huge web. It hasn’t moved yet and I don’t like spiders.

  2. Pingback: Amazing! Its genuinely awesome paragraph, I have got much clear idea concerning from this article. | halfblog.net
